Branden Durst is a candidate for Idaho Superintendent of Instruction. Here is some excellent information from his webpage on his reply to another candidate, Debbie Critchfield, who is running also. (Debbie Critchfield, former president of the State Board of Education, is joining the race for Idaho’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction. https://www.idahoednews.org/news/critchfield-announces-run-for-state-superintendent/)
This is from Branden's Facebook Page: One of my opponents is being fast and loose with the truth. Let's set the record straight. Establishment- She says, "I've been an unpaid volunteer in education for 17 years." She neglects to mention that she was appointed to the state board of education and served as its president. If that isn't being "establishment" I'd like to know what is. CRT - She says, "Has no place in K-12 curriculum." She goes on to claim credit for HB 377, which actually doesn't do anything. She fails to mention that she pushed a DEI policy with the state board of education AND hired Marlene Tromp to be president of BSU. She is on the record saying that CRT isn't a problem in Idaho and that it doesn't happen. You'll also notice she doesn't say she is in favor of banning CRT and she also limits her comments to K-12. What about college? Should those continue to be indoctrination centers? Mandates - She says, "I oppose mandates. I chaired the statewide reopening committee to return students to in-person instruction. I fought for and achieved local school control regarding mask mandates and reopening procedures." Here is the truth: As president of the SBE, she was instrumental in keeping schools closed as that was the guidance to districts from the Board. She also does not support a statewide prohibition against mandates. Her "local school control regarding mask mandates and reopening procedures" is code for keeping your kids masked and passing the buck to locals rathe than leading. Vaccines - She says, "A parent's choice for their kids." Except, as you can read in her previous reply on mandates, she actually doesn't believe that and has fought for the opposite. She thinks your local school board should have the final say on that issue. She had the opportunity to lead as president of the state board and she declined to do so. Let me be clear: I supporting banning CRT at all levels of education in Idaho. I support ending Common Core. I support prohibiting districts from requiring masks and vaccines. And I support real school choice where money follows students. I won't try to use political double speak to hide my real positions. |
